Kenya: Wanuri Shoots Documentary On Sudanese Model

Kenyan filmmaker Wanuri Kahiu is currently working on a documentary of Sudanese actor, model and filmmaker, Ger Duany, titled Ger: To Be Separate.

Wanuri has been documenting Ger's life for a year and has captured some wonderful footage and the documentary is in the final stage of production. It is expected to be out in 2013.

Some of his onscreen roles include work in I Heart Huckabees, The Fighter and Restless City, although he is probably better known for his work as a model. You may have seen him featured in various fashion campaigns.

Ger left his native home and fate led him to his debut on the Hollywood silver screen where he played a refugee in the movie; I (Heart) Huckabees. Director David O Russell said he wanted someone who had endured the real life experience of being a refugee to play the role. Soon after, Ger met male supermodel Tyson Beckford, who saw his modeling potential, which opened the door to a modeling career.

According to his online profile, during all these years he lost touch with his family and land, but in January 2011, he hopped onto another plane, this time back to South Sudan to vote for independence.
