Angola: Former Racer Gets 'Woman in Sport' Award

Luanda — The former athletics racer Guilhermina Cruz, basketball captain Irene Guerreiro Paquete and the Luanda commander of the National Police, chief-commissioner Elisabeth Ranque Frank (several sports), were on Thursday in the Angolan capital awarded the "National Woman in Sport" prize.

During the ceremony organised by the Angolan Olympic Committee (COA) that also created the prize, a total of 24 people got diplomas and trophies.

The diplomas and trophies handed over covered three categories (C,B and A) corresponding to "Volunteer Woman", "Merit Practitioner" and "Experienced Woman"

The 2010 edition of the prize awarded the MP and member of Lwini Fund, Joana Lina and former handball players Filomena Trindade and Elisa Webba Torres.

This event is organised by the Angolan Olympic Committee and takes place every two years, with the objective of recognising the merits or relevant contributions made to the affirmation and valorisation of women in Angola.
