Rwanda: Woman Arrested for Killing Her Brother

Police in Rubavu district are holding a woman identified as Josiane Mukashema for allegedly killing her brother, Jean Baptiste Ndererimana.

The incident took place yesterday in Nyabagobe Village, Nengo Cell, Gisenyi Sector.

It is alleged that the suspect used a knife to stab her brother in the chest who breathed his last as he was being rushed to Gisenyi Hospital.

According to Police, Mukashema and her brother had earlier on had a quarrel over electricity. The suspect confessed to having committed the heinous crime but insisted she had no intentions of murdering her brother.

"It was just an accident caused by failure to control my anger," said Mukashema.

Superintendent Urbain Mwiseneza, the Northern Province Police spokesperson, condemned the act and implored people to avoid excess anger that could easily result into loss of lives.

"People should not take justice in their own hands, but rather resolve conflicts peacefully or report their complaints to institutions entrusted to follow up such cases like Police and courts," said Mwiseneza.
