President Goodluck Jonathan has said there was no alternative to winning the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in South Africa.
The Director General, National Sports Commission (NSC), Patrick Ekeji said this while speaking at the Sport Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), FCT Chapter's Gala and Award Night on Thursday.
He said the President wants the Super Eagles to bring the trophy to Nigeria notwithstanding how they went about it.
"I will like to re-emphasise that the message of Mr. President is that the Super Eagles go to South Africa and win the Nations Cup.
"How they want to do is left for them, but they should just go and do it," he said.
Ikeji urged the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the Super Eagles technical team to ensure that the country is not disappointed.
The 2013 AFCON tournament is scheduled to take place in South Africa from Jan. 19 to Feb. 10.
Meanwhile, the Director-General who also stood in for the Sports Minister, Bolaji Abdullahi assured of the NSC continuous supports to sports in the country.
Ekeji congratulated SWAN for a successful event while encouraging members to sustain their efforts in developing sports in the country.
