Governor Martin Elechi of Ebonyi State yesterday suspended three of his commissioners for their improper dressing to a state banquet.
The suspension came barely a month to the proposed cabinet reshuffle as the state governor had, during the swearing in of the current cabinet, promised Ebonyi people that he would re-jig the executive council after 18 months to inject new blood into his administration. Next month will make it 18 months since he made the promise.
Those suspended were the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Ben Igwenyi, the Commissioner for Works and Transport, Hon. Chukwuma Nwandugo and the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Chief Hyacinth Ikpor.
In statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Dr. Onyekachi Eni, the suspension was for three months while the affected commissioners were directed not to appear in any state function within the duration of their suspension.
Elechi had in his first tenure suspended one of his protocol officers for sharing food while the National Anthem was being sang. He also did same to one of his cleaners for dereliction of duty.
Also, his former Chief of Staff, Mr. Hyacinth Oteh, was suspended for undisclosed reasons before he was recalled and redeployed as a permanent secretary.
