Gambia: KM NAYCONF Local Organising Committee Inaugurated

Kanfing Municipality (KM) on Wednesday inaugurated its local organising committee for the upcoming National Youth Conference (NAYCONF) 2012, to be held in the Central River Region on the Island town of Janjanbureh.

The lord mayor of Kanifing Municipality, Yankuba Colley, youth leaders, among others, attended the inauguration, which was held at the KMC ground. The 10th edition of the NAYCONF is slated from the 14th-22nd December, with the theme, 'directing and re-orienting youths' participation towards the reproductive sector'.

Mayor Colley noted that in whatever the youths of Kanifing Municipality (KM) are into they always look for success. According to him, they do not look at the size of the activities but that their minds are focused on victory. "KM has been seen as the best among many and I believe it will be a replica for the upcoming NAYCONF," he said.

Colley expressed satisfaction with the KM youth folk for the respect they have for one another and to other regions. "My expectation is to win all and that is the promise I would love to have from you; to win all, both in culture and sports," he stated. He then called on the youthto be role models and be discipline in whatever they are doing.

The chairperson of KMYouth Committee, Bakary Badjie, noted that NAYCONF, being the biggest event for the young people of The Gambia, is dedicated to the youth by government and also given by the young people to lead. "As young people we have a role to play in the development of The Gambia most specifically the economic development of the country," he asserted.

He expressed hope that at the end of the event they would be able to have very good resolution that they could share with municipalities and government, and that through the support of the government they would be able to realise it before another NAYCONF in 2014. Badjie disclosed that the event is on different categories; such as youth conference, sports, cultural and beauty pargent.

Lamin Marong, a member, also spoke at the event.
