Liberia: NEC Holds Reform Confab November 26.

The National Elections Commission or NEC in league with the United Nations Development Program and International Federation for Electoral System or IFES will today begin a 2-day International Conference on Electoral Law Reform in Liberia.

The conference, which will be held at a local hotel in Monrovia, is dubbed: "Electoral Law Reform: A key to Improving the Democratic Process in Liberia." According to a NEC release issued Sunday, Johann Kriegler, the former Chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission of South Africa will chair the conference.

Other international lawyers invited by IFES and UNDP will make presentations during the conference, which is intended to ensure that the reform process of the Electoral Laws of Liberia is conducted coherently with international best practices.

NEC said participants of the conference will be drawn from the Liberian National Bar Association, Liberian Legislature, Press Union of Liberia and the media, political parties, as well as partner institutions, among others.
