Nigeria: Whence the Statesmen?

Mni — Benjamin Disraeli, one time British Prime Minister once observed that the world needs to be "... weary of statesmen whom democracy has degraded into politicians"!

So much had been said about the failure of Nigerian state maybe we should change the narrative to failure of Nigeria's statesmen or better still conspicuous absence of elder statesmen. At a time of abysmal state failure almost on all fronts, what the country needs is statesmanship and not petty partisanship. Alas Nigeria parades scores of petty partisans at a time many statesmen are needed to rise to the challenge of nation building.
