Nigeria: Zenith, First Bank Receive SMC Awards

School of Media and Communication (SMC) has given nine awards to valuable members of the SMC community. Two outstanding partners award went to Zenith Bank Plc, for its generous donation of N30 million towards the development of the university's permanent site at Ibeju Lekki and also for supporting the best graduating M.Sc students award category (2011/2012).

First Bank of Nigeria Plc was also awarded for consistently training its staff in the schools programmes over the years.

According to a statement from the SMC, First Bank is the bank with the highest number of alumni members that have graduated from the schools certificate programmes (17 alumni members trained by the bank). "They have also consistently trained their staff in our short workshops and seminars and supported our events over the years. They were recognised for this consistent patronage and support" the statement added.

Two Illustrious Alumni Awards were clinchéd by Ms. Omoshalewa Aboderin, a member of the pioneer class of the Certificate in Media enterprise course, and a foundation member of the SMC alumni association. She is the Executive Director, Purchasing & Corporate Services, Punch Nigeria Limited and has contributed a lot into making Punch what it is today. The other recipient for this category of award is Mr. Wale Adebayo, a member of CME 7 class, and the Managing Director of Wavemarv Media Concepts Limited, publishers of True Blues, Gunners Weekly.

Also, the Zenith Bank award for the best graduating MSc full time student went to Tosin Oladipo, while the Zenith bank award for the best graduating MSc part time student was earned by Tejiri Oghenekaro.

The First bank of Nigeria Plc award for the best graduating Community Relations student went to Nkechi Njemanze who was also the overall best post graduate student, while the First bank of Nigeria Plc award for the best graduating Digital Media Student was earned by Temitope Akintola.

The award is an annual event driven by the alumni association to celebrate the SMC community, made up of students, staff, faculty, alumni and partners.
