Mauritanian President Returns Home

Thousands of supporters welcomed Mauritania's President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz back from France on Saturday (November 24th), ANI reported. Abdel Aziz flew home on a private jet after 40 days in France recuperating from a gunshot injury.

Crowds of well-wishers lined up along the three kilometres of road between Nouakchott airport and the presidential palace to show their support, AFP reported. The president appeared to be in good health, walking across the tarmac to greet government officials and members of the diplomatic corps.

On October 13th, the 55-year-old Mauritanian leader was shot by a soldier in what the government has described as an accident.
