Kenya: Four Coast Players Who Perished in an Accident Laid to Rest

IT was an emotional send-off as players, fans and officials across the Coast region joined hands to give their last respect to the four players who perished last weekend in a road accident after a match in Marereni township.

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) North Coast branch Secretary Raphael Mwalungo led top officials in giving the players a descent burial at Kagombani village in Mambrui within Malindi district.

All the matches which were scheduled for the weekend were suspended in to pave way for the burial of Kalume Kaingu, 16, Raymond Katana,15, Benson Shida, 16 and Chance Mwalimu,15.

The FKF officials also started a disaster kitty and injected Sh20,000 with the North and South Coast branches donating Sh 10,000 each. The accident involving the players of Mambrui-based Coral Sea FC came after a divisional match between them and Marereni-based Hope FC.

FKF boss Sam Nyamweya and regional NEC member Hussein Terry visited the area immediately after the incident. Nyamweya donated Sh50,000 to help offset transport, hospital bills and burial expenses.
