Egypt: U.S. Embassy in Cairo Halts Services On Tuesday

The United States embassy in Cairo said on Monday that it will terminate its operations on Tuesday for security reasons.

"Due to the security situation around the U.S. Embassy, there will be no visa or American citizen services tomorrow, Tuesday, Nov 27", the embassy posted on its official Twitter account.

Liberal forces have called for mass protests on Tuesday in Tahrir Square to express outrage against President Mohamed Mursi's recent decree.

Mursi issued a decree on Thursday that granted him new powers and fortified his decisions from being challenged in courts.

Supporters of Mursi hailed his decree and also called for demonstrations on Tuesday to express their approval.

Germany's Cultural Goethe Institute, located near Tahrir, told Aswat Masriya that it will terminate its operations on Tuesday as well in fear of escalations.
