Nigeria: Team Delta Gets N2m Donation From House Speaker

Team Delta to the 18th National Sports Festival (NSF), got a big boost on Monday when the Speaker, Delta House of Assembly, Mr Victor Ochei, made a personal donation of N2 million to the contingent.

The legislator, who made the donation in Asaba, shortly before the team's departure for Lagos, said the gesture was his contribution to ensure that Delta made appreciable an impact by emerging overall winner at the festival.

Ochei noted that Delta has won four of the six previous editions of the NSF since the 2000 edition held in Bauchi.

He urged the contingent to compete fairly and focus on the agenda of being first amongst equals.

Ochei, who said the state was synonymous with excellence in sports, urged the team to show the stuff champions were made of.

He also charged the athletes and officials to be good ambassadors of the state.

Receiving the cheque, the Chairman, Delta Sports Commission, Mr Amaju Pinnick, expressed gratitude to the Speaker for the gesture.

He said the donation attested to the confidence the people of the state had on the contingent, since the legislature represented the people.

Pinnick pledged that he would ensure that the state emerged overall winner at the 14-day fiesta.
