Liberia: Police Investigate Two Deaths in Nimba

At least two homicide incidents are being investigated by the police at the National Police Headquarters in Monrovia.

Statistical report released by the office of Deputy Police Director for Operations Abraham Kromah showed incidents, covering the period of November 23 to 26, 2012, including two homicide cases from Ganta, Nimba County.

According to the document, the dead body of a 33-year-old victim Alex Zain was found lying along the LPMC bye pass road in Ganta with his throat cut and a cutlass placed beside the corpse.

The report said a doctor (unidentified) was called in who subsequently pronounced the victim dead after examination.

"Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death," the report read.

Regarding the second homicide incident, police gathered that a fight broke out when suspect Victoria Dolo and co-suspect Prince Sayenie went in search of four phone batteries that Victoria had allegedly given for charging since four months ago to a local commercial charger.

According to our Nimba correspondent, Prince Sayemie, 28, and Victoria Dolo, 24 are couples.

They reportedly entered the local charging booth at about 7:30AM and immediately demanded the victim saye Torka to provide their missing Norkia phone batteries or else they will not live to tell the story.

The victim told to go and come back as the proprietor of the booth was not around to address their concern, but a quarrel erupted instantly, leading to the death of Angel Tonzie in the process.

During the fight, police say victim Tonzie, 13, was stabbed in the neck and breast, while another victim identified as SayeTokpa, 14, was also wounded, but survived the injuries.

"They were taken to the Ganta Methodist Hospital where Angel was pronounced dead and Saye treated and discharged. The two suspects are presently detained awaiting court process," the report said.

In the same vein, police say three suspected armed robbers carrying single barrel pistol attacked and shot victim Fomba Konneh, 20, in the left arm in Iron Factory, Gardnerville.

The victim is said to be undergoing treatment at the John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital in Sinkor, while suspects Othello Fokpa, is being investigated at the National Police Headquarters on Capitol Hill.
