Uganda: EC Dispatches Polling Kits to Kamuli and Kween

The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that polling materials for the by-elections in Kamuli and Kween districts will be dispatched to the respective districts today.

The EC chairman Eng. Badru Kiggundu said that on Thursday, 17,851 and 37,450 voters will go to the polls in Kamuli and Kween respectively to elect their District chairpersons and Local Government Councilors.

Addressing the press at the EC headquarters, Kiggundu said that there are efforts to have the two processes kick off without any hinges. He however cautions voters to exhibit discipline.

He said that political parties are allowed to send observers to the polling sites but they have to submit their applications by tomorrow.

"The Commission will provide all those accredited with an identification tag for the purpose of observing the electoral process and Police has been notified to enforce this regulation," said Kiggundu.

Five candidates were nominated in Kween, for district Chairperson. They are Alex Labu, Nelson Chelimo Paul Kapchemeiko, Jackson Mwanga and Tom Chemusto.

Forty three (43) candidates are vying for various seat levels at the lower Local Government Councils.

Kamuli district nominated district chairpersons are Salaamu Musumba, Fred Bamutire, Dhizala Kaloli, Ibrahim Mbadhi, Charles Isanga, Fred Kamaniro, Michael Kifubagabo, and Tom Kategere.

Kiggundu added that there will be security around the polling stations to facilitate smooth a voting exercise.
