Mixology is the art of mixing various alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to come up with cocktails that will titillate the senses. It is still a new art in Kenya which has a long history of patrons drinking mainly lagers and traditional brews when going out.

Cocktail specialists Aquoeus in combination with the Absolute Vodka Brand last week held a mixology competition at the Mercury Lounge on Waiyaki Way in Nairobi. The competition saw various high end establishments in Nairobi compete for the best mixologist in town. The judges in the competition were XFM's Fareed Khimani, UP Nairobi's commercial director Sapna Chandaria and Energy Source PR Firm's Catherine Coulson.

The mixologists had to come up with a cocktail name and ingredients and what inspired them to come up with the cocktail. The winner on the day was Yvonne Wairimu from the Mercury Lounge with her signature cocktail Hidden Secrets.The concoction included 3 basil leaves, ginger syrup, lime juice, amaretto, disarrono, Absolute citron and ginger ale.
