Kenya: Obstacles Faces Women Aspirants, Says Hopeful

An aspirant for women representative sea in Murang'a has raised concerns over the security of female politicians eyeing elective posts. Wanjiru Chege asked the government to provide security for women aspirants.

She was speaking at Kangari Catholic church in Kigumo. The former radio presenter said the campaign environment is harsh for women and accused male aspirants for make it difficult for women to campaign.

"Women in this area have shied away from vying for political positions due to the harsh environment created by the men," she said. Wanjiru said if the government is committed towards ensuring that more women get into power it should protect them and at the same time support their bids.
