Bauchi — The Federal Government has restated its commitment to resettle all flood victims in the country. Chairperson, presidential sub-committee on flood, Professor Dora Akunyili, who spoke yesterday when she visited the Bauchi State Governor Isa Yuguda in Bauchi, said the committee's major responsibility is to ensure that flood victims nationwide are resettled.
Professor Akunyili told the governor that the committee is also doing everything possible to ensure that flood of such magnitude does not occur again in the country.
"The flood disaster is still affecting Nigerians emotionally and this committee will ensure that lives of the flood victims gets better than they were before the disaster," she said.
She called on the governor to guide the committee in rehabilitating victims in the state.
Responding, Governor Isa Yuguda said had it been the multi-billion naira abandoned Kafin Zaki dam in the state had been completed, the effect of the flood on Bauchi and other parts of the North-east zone would not have been so much.
Yuguda called for the immediate construction of the Kafin Zaki dam, saying the project would also provide hydro electricity supply and aid irrigation farming.
