Uganda will join the rest of the world to mark the World AIDS day on Dec 1, 2012 in Kasensero fishing village, Kakuuto, Rakai district, the Director General Uganda Aids Commission, Dr Kihumuro Apuuli has said.

In his communication read by the Rakai district MP Mathias Kasamba, at a press conference at Parliament, Kihumuro said President Yoweri Museveni is expected to preside over the function in a theme dubbed "Re -engaging leaders for effective HIV prevention."

Activities to mark the day will include voluntary testing and counseling among others.

Kihumuro said, Kasensero will host the celebrations because of history. In 1982, the first HIV/AIDS cases in Uganda were identified in Kasensero, a fishing village on the shores of. Lake Victoria, in Rakai district.

Last year's main celebrations were held at Kololo airstrip in Kampala presided over by Vice President Edward Ssekandi. The function kicked off with a match through the streets of Kampala to create more awareness about the scourge.
