Ethiopia: Aacra Targets 662km Road Construction

Addis Abeba City Roads Authority (AACRA) announced that it will undertake 190 road projects in the 2012/2013 budget year with the capital budget of 1.5 billionBr.The construction of the projects commenced under 12 categories includes construction of asphalt roads, bridges, and drainage. The new projects will increase the current 3,731Km city road network by 622Kms.

These Projects include construction of 98.8Km tarmac roads, 15 bridges, 450Km cobble stones goods, 131.5Km drainages, 42.2Km gravel road construction and maintenance.

Among the projects to be constructed this year, 62.1Km tarmac roads, 10 vehicles' and three pedestrian bridges, 4.5 Km drainages and 42.8Km gravel roads are newly implemented projects, according to AARCA report whereas the remaining asphalt roads are projects started on the previous fiscal year. The Authority also targeted to finalise a project design for 134.4 Km new and 72Km old asphalt roads.
