Ondjiva — The Provincial Health Department in southern Cunene province is promoting since Tuesday in Ondjiva city and Cahama district, awareness activities and training on voluntary counselling and testing, stop operation and quick tests, in order to warn the population to stick to the prevention against disease virus.
In its press release sent Wednesday to ANGOP, the institution says that the actions also included a march of solidarity with the HIV/AIDS victims, visit to the exhibition on HIV/ AIDS, prayer for the patients and performance of theatre.
"Citizens will be advised on taking care during their sexual intercourse, to better contribute in reducing the transmission of HIV and contribute to the living quality of people living with HIV/AIDS, conduct tests and avoid the stigma and discrimination," reads the note.
According to the statistics released by the Provincial Department of Health, 11,270 conducted voluntary test on HIV/AIDS during the first half of this year in Cunene.
Out of this figure, 752 were positive and 10,485 negative and 33 indeterminate, mostly women.
