Egypt: Irrigation Minister - Providing Water to Irrigate 400,000 Feddans in Sinai

Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Mohamed Bahaa eddin said that all the intakes on the al-Salam Canal will be finalized by 2015 which will enable it to provide water to irrigate 400,000 feddans in Sinai.

The project will contribute to improving the use and management of water resources to expand the agriculture area and push the development process forward in Sinai through pumping more investments in different sectors, the minister said at the end of his visit to the project site on Tuesday 27/11/2012.

About LE 384 million were allocated to the works of digging wells, establishing reservoirs and completing the infrastructure at the canal, he added.

Meanwhile, the minister said that the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) approved to offer $ 30 million loan to the Irrigation Ministry to establish 1500 irrigation and drainage stations on some Egyptian governorates, adding that loan agreement will be signed next week in Vienna, Austria.
