Al-Merreikh is pushing to land Amavubi and Yanga Africans winger Haruna Niyonzima.
Reports in one of Sudan's newspapers indicate that Al-Merreikh, which is one of the most respected clubs in Africa, is eager to add the Amavubi skipper to their armoury as they prepare for next year's season.
Haruna, who has one-year left on his contract, has been reluctant to renew his deal insisting that he wants to play in Europe and sources close to him indicate that a move to Sudan could be a stepping stone to his European dream.
Last month, Al-Merreikh were knocked out in the semi-final of the Caf Orange Confederation Cup by Congo Brazzaville's Leopards.
Having lost the first leg in Brazzaville 1-2, the Sudanese side needed a two-goal cushion to reach the final but just couldn't find the net as the return leg in Omdurman ended goalless.
