Dutch Philanthropist, Yankuba Vermeulen, of Foundation Gambia Sports, Sunday gave the Kiang Jali Sports Development Committeea set of football jerseys and footballs in a ceremony held at the Buffer Zone football ground in Tallinding.
Foundation Gambia Sports is a charitable Sportswear organisation for The Gambia and its manager, Vermeulen, has over the years given sponsorship to schools, and established football clubs and academies across the country.
A pair of 13 football jerseys and three footballs were handed over to Baboucarr Camara, the man behind the move and an adviser to the Jali Sports Development Committee, by Vermeulen. Speaking after the handing over of the sportswear, Vermeulen promised to do more forJali in his next visit to The Gambia in April.
He challenged the committee to take good care of the donated materials which he said will motivate him to offer them more support with his next visit. He added that this will be the beginning of a long and fruitful relationship between his organisation and Jali while hoping to scout talents that could be taken to teams in his native Holland in future.
The president of the Jali Sports Development Committee, Ebrima Samateh, lauded the gesture of Foundation Sports The Gambia through Yankuba Vermeulen for the kind gesture and promised to take good care of the donated items.
Sulayman Camara, a member of the organising committee of the annual Jali Nawettan, gave the vote of thanks and thanked Yankuba Vermeulen and his foundation for the kind gesture while challenging the players to take the game of football seriously.
In a sign of appreciation for the donated football materials, the Jali Sports Development Committee has decided to organise a football game between the members of the village on Sunday at the Tallinding Buffer Zone football ground that will be attended by Yankuba Vermeulen. Kick-off is at 4pm.
Vermeulen was accompanied by his friend and associate, Frankie, who is the current head coach of the Real de Banjul FC youth team.
