Zambia: Food Reserve Agency to Offload Maize Stocks

THE Food Reserve Agency (FRA) will offload maize stocks on the domestic market beginning next month to stabilise food prices, board chairperson Guy Robinson has announced.

Mr Robinson said in a statement yesterday that in line with the Agency's mandate of stabilising food prices and ensuring supply of the staple crop, the stocks would cost K1,200 per kilogramme or K60,000 per 50 kilogramme bag beginning the first week of next month.

"In line with the Agency's mandate of stabilising food prices and ensuring stable supply of the staple crop, the Agency is ready to offload stocks on the domestic market to millers and communities beginning first week of December, 2012," Mr Robinson said.

Meanwhile, the FRA board has appointed Chola Kafwabulula as executive director.

Mr Kafwabulula had been up to the time of the appointment been acting executive director.

He was the FRA's secretary and legal counsel.
