Gambia: Fourteen-Year-Old Boy Drowns At Basse River

Basse, Urr — A 14-year-old boy Tuesday drowned at the river in Basse. Karfa Susso, a native of Kerewan Badarri and a grade three student of Kerewan Lower Basic School in Wulli West District, was bathing with his mates when the tragedy occurred.

The father of the victim, Kalilu Susso, who spoke to the Daily Observer, said his son went to bath in the river with his group mates namely Edirisa Fatty, Tambanding Keita and Buba Conteh, and during the process, his son drowned. He described the latekarfa to be a hardworking boy at home andschool. "I lost a great son," a tearful Kalilu said, and later prayed for the soul of the deceased to rest in peace.

Fishermen who were at the scene searched for Karfa's body the entire night but could not locate the body until Wednesday morning.He has since been buried.
