The speaker of parliament, Rebecca Kadaga has ordered the Rules and discipline committee to investigate the misconduct of members of parliament(MPs) during the oil bill debate on Tuesday.
Legislators turned rowdy over the controversial amendment of clause nine of the Petroleum (Exploration, Development, Production) Bill, 2012, that gives unlimited powers to the minister of energy to issue licenses, negotiate agreements among others. Those opposing say this clause is subject to manipulation.
Kadaga said that MPs should conduct themselves in a somber and reasonable manner. She thereafter asked the parliamentary rules committee to expeditiously handle the matter so that those responsible for causing chaos can be sanctioned.
The speaker added that disciplinary actions will be taken against those found guilty of causing the mayhem.
She adjourned the house up to when the committee releases its findings. This may be done by Tuesday next week.
Mean while in a press briefing just after the adjournment, Odonga Otto, Aruu MP said, "We collectively own the deeds of that debate and we respect the speaker."
