Kenya: Farmers Block Kengen Plant

Operations at the Eburu geothermal power plant in Naivasha yesterday stalled for the second day after residents blocked staff from accessing it.

The residents, mostly farmers, held a demonstration outside the plant against the degradation of the environment by the firm. The protestors, who ignored armed police officers, vowed that no work would continue in the plant.

They dug trenches and laid boulders to block the road leading to the power plant . Contacted on phone, Kengen geothermal development manager Godfrey Muchemi said the firm will hold talks with the farmers to address the problem.
