THE new Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon winner, Wesley Kibet has challenged the youths to engage themselves in sports activities because the opportunities are open to all.
"I urge you to enter into the world of sports as there are chances of building a better future for yourself and your children," said Kibet. He was speaking yesterday in Solabwek Primary School in Narok South District after he presented balls to the school.
Kibet said involvement in athletics was strange since none of his family members had ever tried any sporting activity. He said his victory in the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon was equally a shocker although he had worked hard in training. He said sports success was only about hardwork and discipline and that can be achieved with any focused individual.
"For one to succeed in this field, one must focus on the goal and really work for it,' he advised. National Olympics Committee of Kenya assistant treasurer, Stephen Arap Soi who was present at the event, said the organisation recognises the untapped talents hidden in the youths. He said the talents are only exploited when the youths are exposed to opportunities available in the field of sports.
