Egypt: Police Forces Didn't, Won't Storm Tahrir Square

A well-placed security source at the Interior Ministry denied reports by some news websites alleging that police forces stormed Tahrir Square earlier on Wednesday 28/11/2012.

In a statement, the source explained that some rioters sparked fire into buildings close to Simon Bolivar Square. The rioters had even attacked fire fighters who rushed to the scene to contain the fire, thus, forcing facilities' guards in the area to use tear gas bombs to disperse them.

The Interior Ministry urged political and revolutionary powers in Tahrir Square to ward off attacks on public or private facilities in the area, the source said.

The ministry stressed right of peaceful demonstration, reiterating that there is no intention to break into Tahrir Square.
