Nigeria: Odio Gets Oil Spill Committee

Uyo — The Odio community in Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State has constituted a seven man committee on the recent oil spill reported at the Qua Iboe oil fields.

Mobil Producing Nigeria (MPN) operator of the Qua Iboe fields had in a statement confirmed that the spill incident on November 9 discharged crude oil into the Atlantic and subsequently polluted the coastline in Akwa Ibom.

The committee has Dr. Samson Ebito as chairman, while Mr Chike Sunday Udo is secretary.

Inaugurating the committee at the Odio community centre, Chief Hanson Inyang, chairman Odio community council noted that the oil spill devastated seven fishing communities within Odio.
