Nigeria: Red Star Express Commended for CSR Activities

Chairman, Oshodi — Isolo Local Government, Muse Ariyoh has commended Red Star Express for sustaining the scholarship program that the company commenced in 2004.

The beneficiaries, students of some public schools in Oshodi-Isolo local government also expressed their gratitude to the management of Red Star Express for embarking on such a laudable project.

Speaking on behalf of other recipients of the scholarship, Peter Esekhaige, an SS 2 student of Ikeja Senior Grammar School, Oshodi said 'We thank Red Star Express for its dedication to the scholarship programme which has reduced the burden borne by our parents in providing for our educational needs. What more can I say than to thank the company and its management for keeping their promises.'

During a special ceremony held at the company's head office, in honour of the beneficiaries, Red Star Express Managing Director, Mr. Sule Bichi, explained that the purpose of the scholarship was to encourage young and brilliant Nigerian students to aim for excellence. He implored the beneficiaries to stay focused on their academic pursuit and also conduct themselves in manner worthy of emulation.

He noted that the gesture was in accordance with the company's philosophy of Corporate Social Responsibility which mandates the company to contribute to the development of the society. Red Star Express appropriates 0.5 per cent of its annual profit after tax towards to running of the "Red Star Foundation" which is the charity arm of the organization.

Red Star Foundation aims at expressing its social responsibility to host community, leveraging on its corporate goodwill and creating more awareness, also demonstrating its core value for the benefit of the society and encouraging excellence, diligence and integrity among secondary school students.
