Gambia: Mile Two Inmate Dies After Brief Illness

Alieu Jallow, convicted inmate who was serving sentence at Gambia's Central Prison at Mile 2 died after complaining of illness.

Alieu in his early 30s, died after being gripped by sudden illness in his prison cell and was hurried to be admitted for medical treatment at the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital where he was later pronounced dead, bereaved family members say.

No reason has been established as to the specific cause of death.

Known by his nickname 'Saja', the Bundung Bantaba street resident, was serving a jail term on drug related charges.

"He died after falling sick in his cell and was taken to RVTH where he died", said a friend at the funeral

He was laid to rest yesterday 2pm at the Bundung Six Junction Cemetery.
