The Police at Saltpond in the Central Region are investigating allegations that the aspiring Member of Parliament (MP) for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ekumfi Constituency, formerly Mfansteman East, Mr. Abeiku Crenstil, also known as Samuel Arthur, has conspired with a man of Northern Ghana origin, who simply gave his name as Azuri, with the purpose of murdering his main rival, Francis Kingsley Ato Cudjoe, who is contesting the 2012 parliamentary seat in the Ekumfi Constituency.
At a press conference at Essarkyir in the Central Region, Mr. Ato Codjoe produced a tape of a telephone conversation between a voice alleged to be that of Mr. Crenstil, and the proposed hired assassin, while hatching the plot.
Mr. Cudjoe told the gathering that a report had been made to the Saltpond Police, together with a copy of the tape.
"On his criminal engagement of contract killers, we have reported the case to the police, and are forwarding copies of these tapes to assist their investigations."
"We are also going ahead to take a second legal action on his nomination, as the act on the tape is a criminal matter that can result in a criminal conviction, which will nullify his nomination and representation in Parliament, in the unlikely event of his win."
The NDC candidate has another headache to overcome. Mr. Abeiku Crenstil's dodgy academic record has been a source of worry to his party and the electorate, since he beat the incumbent Member of Parliament, Mr. George Kuntu Blankson, in the NDC primary.
On his parliamentary forms, Mr. Crenstil was said to have entered his qualification as Middle School leaving Certificate (MSLC). He was known as Samuel Arthur when he was enrolled at the Essarkyir D/C Middle School, where he re-sat the MSLC after his result had been cancelled, together with the entire class of the 1988 batch at the Essuehyia Local Authority Middle School.
But, in other documentations, he claims to hold a Diploma from the Takoradi Polytechnic. According to Mr. Cudjoe, there was clear evidence that even his1989 MSLC result was also cancelled.
The NPP parliamentary candidate alleged at the press conference that Mr. Crenstil had been claiming that he was a student at the Takoradi Polytechnic from 2003-2005, which had proved to be false.
"We are in possession of an official record from the school, confirming that no such name as Samuel Arthur or Abeiku Crentsil ever graduated or even enrolled at the Polytechnic during the said period.
"We, therefore, see him as a rogue, a candidate whose candidature is not valid," Mr. Cudjoe added.
