Gambia: Actors and Actresses' Night to Be Hosted in Gambia

The Gambia film makers and producers association will for the first time host Actors and Actresses' Night in the Gambia on the 27th December 2012 at the Joint Officers Mess in Kotu.

It is in this light that the God Gift film production, Better Future Film production, Afrinity Production, New Age Center For Education and Media Resource and the Joint officers mess called for a press conference to inform journalists about the event.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Lamin K Janneh, the CEO of Better Future Production, told journalists that they have slated December 27th to host the Actors and Actresses' Night.

He said the motive behind this is to promote Gambian Actors and Actresses, and let them feel that their efforts towards the movie industry is being recognized.

The organisers of the event said there will be lot of entertainment, poetry ,Comedy music and other arts on that night and that people would really enjoy it. He said there would be a party afterwards as well.

Mr Janneh told journalists that they want to show the world that Gambians got talented Actors and Actresses that need to be exposed. He used the opportunity to inform the gathering that there are excellent movie makers in the Gambia and we need to support them for their works to be recorgnised internationally. Mr Janneh said they have challenged all movie producers to submit their productions so that the judges can start doing their job. He said the selection will be very transparent.

Lamin went on to say that " we are not concerned about how popular you are but we will check the technicality of your acting, you need to be good in motivating people and your personality has to be good. We look at lots of Gambian movies in respect of which language they are acted in. Sponsors are definitely invited for this national event but we will not say we will not host the show because we don't have sponsors".

Mr Lamin K Janneh who did most of the talking at the press conference told journalists that the winners of the award would not only go home with the prestigious award, but will be featured in many Gambian Movies that they are working on. He said from this year, the Actors and Actresses' Night will be an annual event in the Gambia.

They stressed the need for partnering with the media which he said has a very important role to play in Gambian Art industry in general.

The Categories according to the Organisers are:

The best actor of the year.

The best actress of the year.

The best supporting actor of the year.

The youngest actor.

The best upcoming actor/actress.

The best male comedian.

The best supporting actress.

The best female comedian.

Remarks were given by various representatives of various movie makers in the Gambia before the floor was open for journalists to ask questions.
