Gambia: Circle of Friends Donate to Sukuta U.S

The circle of friends and Moormeland from Germany donates 5000 euros to sukuta upper basic school on Thursday 22nd November 2012 at the Sukuta Upper Basic School grounds.

The donated money was meant for the school to complete their multi purpose hall, the library and the computer lab.

Speaking at the handing over ceremony, the principal of the school Mrs. Haddy Sosseh Saidy said that they would do put the money into good use.

Mrs. Sosseh assured the donors that they are not going to fold their hands, but they would also organize fund raising to increase the money so that they will be able to complete the roofing.

Sosseh Saidy believes that the money given to them would not be able to complete the building, as the hall is a multi purpose centre.

Mrs. Sosseh further said that they would involve the community to help them with the labour as the school belongs to the community, so their involvement too would help them as well.

Sosseh added that the multi/purpose centre will hold several activities, like drama, entertainment and assemblies will be also held there.

She stated that their school started cooperation with the circle of friend's way back in 1988 and they received lot of donation from them since they are the ones who fenced the whole upper basic school and built lot of classrooms in addition to the school.

She concludes that the school and cycle of friends will celebrate their 25th anniversary in March 2013.

Also speaking is Holger Schneider, chairman of circle of friends and moomerland said that he started coming to the Gambia since 1981 to 1984 as a tourist in the Gambia, but that they started connecting with the upper basic in 1988 when it was not called upper basic but secondary school to junior and now to upper basic school.

Mr. Holger said the reason why they are helping the students is because they don't want them to leave their country looking for greener pastures, but opined that with education they would be able to help themselves and to work in their country, as most of them leave because of economic reason.

Holger also said one of their partners who is supporting the library by the name Dr Anna Stelt hove /Feni also sent her greetings to the school and he said that Dr Anna is the one who furnished the library and pays the librarian too.

Also speaking at the presentation Sainabou Faye, a grade nine student who gave the vote of thanks, thanks Holger and his partners for the kind gesture they've been doing for the school.
