Egypt Welcomes UN Resolution to Grant Palestine 'Non-Member Observer Status'

Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr has welcomed a resolution by the UN General Assembly to grant Palestine a "UN non-member observer status".

The General Assembly overwhelmingly voted Thursday 29/11/2012 for the resolution, recognizing implicitly the sovereign state of Palestine. The vote passed with 138 countries voting yes, nine voting no, and 41 abstaining.

Amr extended congratulation to Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Malki on this significant accomplishment.

The Minister noted that Egypt is determined to provide all necessary support for the Palestinian people.
