Al-Quds is not just an occupied land but it is an Islamic and Christian holy place, affirmed Al-Azhar Grand Sheikh Dr Ahmed el-Tayyeb.
Tayyeb's remark was readout on his behalf by Mohamed Gomeiya, the general director of the media in Al-Azhar during a celebration organized Thursday by the Arab League in cooperation with the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UN-ESCWA) on the occasion of the UN International Day of Solidarity with the Palestine People, which is observed on November 29 each year.
In the speech, Gomeiya quoted Tayyeb as affirming Al-Azhar's support for the Palestinian people in their just cause.
Solidarity Day provides an opportunity for the international community to focus its attention on the fact that the question of Palestine is still unresolved and that the Palestinians are yet to attain their inalienable rights as defined by the UN General Assembly.
