Kenya: Woman On Suicide Bid Charge

A woman was yesterday charged with attempted suicide at a Mombasa court.

Constance Muganga, is said to have attempted to jump off MV Kilindini ferry into the Indian Ocean on Tuesday at the Likoni Channel.

She is alleged to have told her four year old to jump into the ocean in a bid to end their lives.

Muganga denied the charges saying she could not recollect what happened on the day.

Senior resident magistrate SK Gacheru released her on a Sh30, 000 bond with a similar surety.

The case will be heard on January 7.

Accompanied by her two daughters including a breast feeding toddler, the suspect told the court she was not of sane mind at the time of the incidence.

"Nilikua naskia nikama kichwa kinanitoroka (I felt as if I was running mad)" mercy said when her charges were read.
