Kenya: Boda Boda Operators Torch House in Gem

An alleged motorbike thief had his house torched by angry Boda Boda operators in Marenyo Sub-location, Gem District.

The operators raided the home of Benson Oduor, 20 whom they accused of stealing a motorbike from one of them.

They not only burnt down Oduor's house but also destroyed and looted from two other houses belonging to Oduor's uncle, Emmanuel Opiyo, that were in the homestead.

Opiyo said the goods stolen are valued at Sh500,000.

He said that even after reporting the matter to Yala Police Station, the police told him they could not do anything about it without specific culprits to arrest.

The boda boda operators had accused Oduor, a class eight dropout who repairs motorbikes, of teaming up with an accomplice to steal from one of them on Tuesday night.
