Foreign Minister Mohamed Amr strongly condemned an Israeli decision to build new settlements in al-Quds after a vote at the UN General Assembly upgraded the Palestinian status at the UN to that of non-member observer state.
Amr said the continuation of settlement building threatens the two-state solution and peacemaking between the Palestinians and Israel.
The Minister said the Palestinian state is still under occupation, adding the Palestinian leadership reiterated readiness to resume negotiations following the UN resolution.
Minister Amr voiced hope that the international community would exert efforts to halt the Israeli settlement expansion.
