Kenya: Ruto to Hold Rally in Kapkatet On Saturday

Eldoret North MP William Ruto will this weekend take his campaigns to the South Rift region to popularise an impending alliance between TNA and URP.

The United Republican Party Leader will address a public rally at Kapkatet Stadium in Kericho.

He met 5,000 leaders from the Rift Valley at the Eldoret Sports Club on Wednesday over the alliance.

Ruto is expected to quash the recent anti-URP-TNA alliance campaign being driven by the Achicha lobby group in the region calling on locals not to endorse it.

The lobby group has vowed to block the alliance saying it was not consulted on the plan.

The lobby's coordinator Jacob Rotich said it was wrong for Ruto strike deals with other parties without consulting the Kelanjin community.

Rotich vowed the group would marshal youths from the Rift Valley to campaign against the alliance saying "the spirit of public participation should always be embraced".

However, some local leaders have dismissed the group's attempt, saying it is not working for in interest of the community.

Organisers of the Saturday rally confirmed that Ruto will be leading Rift Valley MPs allied to URP to publicise the alliance.

"The preparations for the rally have been finalised and we have chosen Kapkatet to be the central point between Bomet and Kericho counties," said one of the organisers.

Today's homecoming rally for Home Affairs assistant minister Beatrice Kones who has ditched ODM for URP has been postponed.

Kones said the party leader requested her to hold on until he finalises the alliance deal.

"We have put off the Bomet rally to enable the Kapkatet one take off but we are organising a later date where we will host the URP leader in Bomet East," she said.

She said her function was to announce to her supporters she has joined URP.
