Nigeria: NPL Confirms Congress, Says No Kick-Off Date

Contrary to reports in some section of the media that the 2012/2013 Nigeria Premier League season will kick off in December, the acting Executive Secretary of the board, Mr. Tunji Babalola said there is no iota of truth in it as he said it is only after the congress that NPL will announce the kick-off date.

Speaking to Trustsports yesterday, Babalola confirmed that the NPL congress which got the approval of the NFF on Thursday will hold next Thursday at Tahir Hotel in Kano.

He said during the congress, draws for the 2012/2013 season would hold and issues germane to the commencement of the new season would be thrashed out.

Babalola said even as it is faced with a lot of challenges, the NPL secretariat is working assiduously to ensure a smooth take off of the league.

"We have not chosen any kick-off date. How can the league commence before the congress is held?. We are going to hold our congress on Thursday and after that we would announce the kick off date.
