Nigeria: 'He Ditched Me After Three Kids for Another Lady'

An aggrieved housewife, Elizabeth Akingaba, last Wednesday told Presiding Magistrate of Kubwa Magistrate Court, Ibrahim Muhammad, that her husband, simply identified as Victor, dumped her after three children and married another wife.

Elizabeth said she was provoked by Victor's action and stormed his residence to register her grievances.

But Victor accused Elizabeth of "house breaking and theft," claiming that Elizabeth burgled his house at Kubwa and stole valuables belonging to his legally married wife, including N20,000 cash and the photographs of wife and child.

The case took a new twist when the father-in-law, Chedra Akingaba, who was in court to testify for his daughter in the divorce suit, narrated how Victor had three children with her daughter without paying the bride price.

Akingaba, 56, told the court that some years ago, Victor came to his country home in Ondo State to ask her for daughter's hand in marriage. "That was the only time I saw and heard from him until a few months ago, when I received the news that there was a quarrel between my daughter and Victor.

"Victor neither paid the bride price nor performed any marriage rite for my daughter, though I learnt they have three children." Adjourned the matter till February 14, 2013.
