Nigeria: Basketball - Team Ondo Defeat Adamawa to Keep Hope Alive

The Head Coach of Ondo State Basketball team, Sola Aluko, has said that if his players can win their next two games they will qualify for the second round of the competition.

Aluko said this while reflecting on the team's prospects in the competition at the ongoing 18th National Sports Festival in Lagos in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) yesterday.

NAN reports that the Ondo State female basketball team had defeated their counterparts from Adamawa 90-47 in one of the preliminary games decided on Friday.

However, they have suffered losses to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) by 43-34 and Lagos State 82-38.

But the coach said he was not daunted by the defeats and would strive to win his remaining two games in the group stages.

Aluko told NAN that though his girls' performance was overwhelming he was still not satisfied with it, adding that they could still improve on it.

"Although we won the match with a whooping 43 points, I am optimistic that we can still improve on it.

"I believe that if we can win our next two games, we will place third in the group which will make us to qualify for the next stage," he said.
