Blankets and Wine closes the year with an all Kenyan cast on Sunday, December 2, with an appearance by hip-hopster Madtraxx. Though it's safe to say that Madtraxx's genre of music is rarely explored at Blankets, his tracks inspire sing-alongs at every turn.
Ita Waiter, Skamares, Get Down, and Big Shot are just a few of his well loved hit songs; the mark of a man who did well to leave his former life as a producer to focus on entertaining the masses.
Also lumped on the Leisure Garden stage will be the totally entertaining Dan Chizi Aceda. He is soft-spoken, has a brilliant voice and is uncanny in how he manages to understand crowds and draws them in to celebrate music and culture with him.
His calm demeanour will be well complemented by the super-energetic Makadem, who has had his share of overseas performances this year.
Andrew Wambua and Afrology the Band are the newest kids of the block for 40th edition of B&W, but organizers are confident that there is no weak link, and they have put on a promising show.
"This year, we've had the opportunity to bring you some very big names from around Africa and the world. As we wind out the year, Blankets & Wine will be commemorating our 40th event over the past four years and we're taking it back to the basics with a celebration of Kenyan music," read a testimonial by the B&W team on their Facebook page.
This concert will be a litmus test for Kenyan concert lovers, on whether or not they need a big name to be drawn to a concert riddled with local artistes. Revellers should dress in red, black, white and green if they are up to it.
Limited advance tickets are on sale for Sh1,500 on ticketsasa.com and at select Dormans outlets. Tickets at the gate will be sold at Sh2,000, children between 5 to 12 years will pay Sh500 and entrance for children under 5 is free.
