Kenya: Neglected Dumpsite Angers Nakuru Residents

Residents of Kiamunyi, Olive Inn and London estates in Nakuru have accused the municipal council of neglecting a dumpsite at Gioto. Mary Muthoni claimed the dumpsite on the Nakuru-Eldama Ravine road is full, therefore a health hazard.

"We want the council to move fast and address the issue because the dumpsite is an eyesore," she said. The residents demanded that the council relocates the dumpsite immediately for the sake of their health.

George Korir, a resident, said they will sue the council if it fails to relocate the dumpsite. Nakuru mayor Mohammed Surraw has been reported saying the council will soon buy land to relocate the dumpsite but nothing has been done so far.
