Tanzania: Aspirants Olympic Election Vetted

THE Tanzania Olympic Committee (TOC), Election Committee has endorsed 35 out of 37 aspirants to vie for the body's election planned for December 8, in Dodoma.

Trio of Filbert Bayi, Juma Ikangaa and Frederick Mwakalebela have all been cleared to contest for the post of Secretary General, in what promises to be a close contest if not stiff competition of all.

The committee Chairman, Lloyd Nchunga said Peter Mwita and Zacharia Gwandu have been given until December 8, this year to submit proof on the authenticity of their academic credentials. Nchunga also has flag off the campaign for the cleared candidates starting yesterday, which will run until the Election Day.

He named other candidates who have been cleared and the posts they are vying for in bracket as Ghullam Rashid and Khamis Abdallah Said (President), Jackson Kalikumtima, Hassan Jarufu, Henry Tandau and Abdulhakim (Vice-President).

Others are David John Mwakiposa and Jamal Nassoro Adi (Assistant Secretary General), the Treasurer post has only the incumbent, Charles Nyange and the Assistant Treasurer post attracted only Juma Khamis Zaidy.

Nchunga named those cleared to stand for the post Executive Committee members from the Mainland as Irene Jackosn Mwasanga, Muharami Mchume, Noorelain Shariff, Haudface Mpaju, Lina Kessy, Alex B. Alex, Vitalis Shija, Salum S. Salum and Suleiman Nyambui.

Zanzibar's Executive Committee member candidates include Nassoro Juma Mohamed, Mussa Abdul-Rabi Fadhil, Suleiman Ame Khamis, Suleiman Mahmoud Jabir, Abdirahaman M. Hassan, Saadun Ahmed Khamis, Mzee Zam Ali, Khamis Ghullam and Islam A. Islam.
