Carthage — Caretaker President Moncef Marzouki congratulated Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Palestine's upgrade to the United Nations non-member Observer Status, said a Presidency press statement.
During a telephone conversation with the Palestinian leader, President Marzouki described "this gain" as a "historical step" allowing to remedy injustice and free the Palestinian people from the oppression endured since the Nakba (Arab-Israeli War 1948). It also reflects, he said, the international solidarity with the rights of the Palestinian people and their just cause, " emphasised the same source.
Mr. Marzouki reiterated Tunisia's continuous support for the Palestinian people until they recover their legitimate rights and establish their State with Al-Quds as capital, the statement indicated.
