Nigeria: Sokoto to Host Nationwide League Super 8

The Sokoto State Government has agreed to host and bankroll this year's edition of the Nigeria Nationwide League (NNWL) Super-eight competition, which will kick-off Dec. 15 to round up 2012 activities, the chairman of the league has said.

Alhaji Ahmed Kawo, the Chairman of the NNWL, while briefing journalists in Abuja, said the competition was to promote eight clubs from division two to division one.

According to him, the four day programme will end on Dec. 18, and that the new logo of the nationwide would be unveiled at a meeting with the club owners.

He explained that the league which would bring the activities of the 2012 events to a close would comprise of three events, the competition, unveiling of the logo and the meeting with club owners.

"The usual best eight clubs will be promoted from division two to division one at the end of the tournament", he said.

Kawo said the objective of the board was to rehabilitate, sensitise, transform and also to promote the Nigeria nationwide grassroots league for football development.

He stated that football could be a tool to be used in addressing the challenges faced by youths in the country, as it will keep the youths busy and out of anti-social behaviour.
